| The five core paintings of this show are a catharsis, marking my exit this month from sixteen years of marriage. Four paintings depict the heart; cleft, rent, mended, shared. The fifth is a self-portrait laden with metaphors. In this most transitional year of my life, this portrait is an introspection touching both self confidence and self doubt, virility and deprivation, masculinity and emasculation, and identity as an artist. At the very center of the painting, my wedding ringnow removed from my finger hangs on a chain over my heart. | |
